Dr. J R Williams II was born on August 3, 1951 in Dallas, Tx to the parents of Dr and Mrs J R Williams, Sr.  I am the 3rd oldest of 6 siblings.  My mother was a college graduate and a great homemaker and my father was a pioneer physician in the Dallas area as one of a handful of African American Physicians to acquire private hospital as well as city-county hospital privileges in the 1950's.  I was educated in public schools in North Dallas and finished high school in 1969 as Valedictorian.  I received a B.S. degree in Zoology and Chemistry from Texas Tech University in 1973 and subsequently received my M.D. degree from The University of Texas Southwestern Medical School, Dallas, Tx in 1977.  My post-doctoral training consisted of General Surgery and Otolaryngology/Head and Neck Surgery which I completed in 1982.  I am board-certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology (ABO) since 1983.  I am a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (F.A.C.S.).  I enjoyed private practice experience, as a solo practitioner along with multi-specialty experience, for 18 years prior to an invitation to rejoin UT Southwestern as a full-time faculty member, Assistant Professor, in the Department of Otolaryngolgy/Head and Neck Surgery in the year 2000.  I am married for 26 years and have one daughter who has recently finished graduate school.

I enjoy participating in the education of the next generation of physicians, as well as practicing along side physician-extenders (i.e. Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants).  I continue to reach for my higher calling and much of my limited time outside of medicine involves creating networks of business-minded individuals who have hearts for people.  I realize that I cannot duplicate myself, however, I can participate with functional systems in order to touch even more lives.  There is always a need !
